Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Chicago, IL

Lost/stole high-end mattress, overcharged, late delivery

This company was subcontracted by my daughter-in-law's primary movers, Allegiance Van Lines, to move her furniture and boxes from LA to Chicago. Not only did the furniture arrive more than 10 days late, they also lost her new $2,800 Casper Wave mattress, and have refused to replace it or reimburse her. And they overcharged her on weight and volume by at least 25 percent--50 percent if you count the mattress that never arrived. The most ironic thing is the name: Best Moving Van Lines. They should rename it: Worst Moving Van Lines.

WoRsT Moving Van Line.

BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE!They care nothing about your items arriving to its destination in they same condition they were sent.  My items weren't just damaged, they were demolished.  I paid $2,300 for a cross country move and I fully regret using this company.  A picture is worth a thousand words.  You judge for yourself.
My items were not just cracked on a corner, but they were completely demolished.  If you look at the lamps the post was completely broken along with the base.
My mirror frame was completely broken.  How does this happen, except you are throwing things in a truck as if it were trash.

Excellent crew on 2/28/16.

We have a 5 bdrm home with lots of moving to do, my 4 movers, Jaime's crew, was the most amazing, good hearted, positive and the most hard working crew I was blessed to have help us. They are so efficient and with the amount of stuff we had, they managed to get things done and we were amazed and in awe of how great of service they provided. Thank you, Jaime, for your dedication and impeccable work ethics. God Bless you all.

Long-distance move from Santa Clara, CA to Austin, TX

Lost my Bose speaker bar.

THIEVES, this word may sound harsh, but I believe they stole my Bose speaker bar. I used Best Moving Van Line to move from CA to TX, they took 4 weeks to move my stuff. When my stuff arrived, most of my furniture had dents and damages. But this is not the biggest of my worries, they had lost my BOSE SPEAKER BAR. There were 62 items/packages in my shipment, I received all the 61 items, except for my Bose speaker !!. I had used the original Bose box to pack it, so for anyone who's handling it, it was very clearly visible that it's a Bose speaker. So I can't think of any other reason for only this item to be lost/misplaced.

Its not the question of money, instead its the issue of integrity. When we give our stuff to move, we believe in them, we have our faith in them. When moving 1700 Miles, I understand that there are some chances of having a minor damage to furniture. But missing/stealing a valuable item ?

Attached the remarks from the inventory paper, signed by their own delivery person.

Terrible experience

The only thing this company did right was to show up on the correct day. I should back up and say that I did not hire this company directly. My contract was with International Van Lines; IVL has a number one rating from Forbes magazine. Therefore, I did not intentionally choose BMVL and due to their F rating by the Better Business Bureau, I never would have chosen them. (I did not realize that I was dealing with a broker-that they would not be moving me directly.) They only used paper, NO bubblewrap for my “all-pack”. Therefore, I sustained a large amount of breakage. It would also seem as though they dropped my computer tower and other pieces of furniture based on the amount of damage. In addition, many items went “missing“ such as my daughter’s IKEA desktop, and an oil painting approximately 3‘ x 4‘. BMVL has been unresponsive and both IVL & BMVL have refused arbitration. My next step is to pursue small claims court. I deeply regret not purchasing replacement insurance. (My quote had already increased to $14,000 and I didn’t feel I could afford the replacement insurance of $1400 more.) I have filed a formal complaint with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. BMVL’s customer service is useless. They will tell you that they will get back to you but they never do. In addition, a piece of glass was delivered to me that is not mine. They never would tell me what to do with it. I hate to throw it away because it is a custom cut piece. Lastly, BMVL subcontracted with a third moving company called Arena Van Lines located in New Jersey to perform the delivery. They also have an F rating. That was also a terrible experience. Interestingly, when I reached out to AVL, they have no record of me! Lessons learned:

#1: get an in person quote. (IVL lowballed me at first because they “didn’t understand” that I had a room full of packed by owner boxes and then raised the price $4000 more 3 days before pick up.) (The companies that did come out never got back to me with a price quote.) Lesson 2: Buy replacement insurance. Lesson 3: Make sure the company that I am paying will be doing the move and not subcontracting with a third-party company.

Run away.

Avoid, avoid, avoid!  You will regret any dealings with this company.  First of all, they will ignore any start time you request.  No attempt to meet it is made at all.   When I reserved, I was told the 9 am to 11 am start I needed would not be a problem.  The day before, I was notified that they would probably arrive about noon. Not ideal, but it was still workable.  The day of the move, it became 1 to 2 pm.  They actually arrived at 5:15 pm.   The portion of packing done by the movers was all unlabeled.  Not even a room designatin!  Amazingly, the foreman then told me that belongings in my 2 bdrm apartment that I have moved several times would not fit on their 24 ft truck.  How their 24 ft truck is different from the 24 ft trucks of other movers I've used I still don't understand!  I had asked that my laptop not been packed, because I wanted to keep it with me in my car.  They packed it, anyway.  Because the boxes were not labeled, it took about 30 hours to find it.   When we arrived at the new apartment, the foreman suggested just stacking all boxes in the living room, since so many were unlabeled.  The fact that nearly all unlabeled had been packed by his team seemed lost to him.  And then I realized that it had been deliberate, and not the ridiculous oversight it had first appeared to  be.   Save yourself the hassle, and just pick someone else!                            .

Do Not Use This Company!!

Made reservation well in advance for this company to move me on a Saturday. On the day before the move they called to confirm and on the day move they again called to confirm with a reservation of between 8:00am - 10:00am. By the time 11:00am came there still were no movers. Called to find out what happened and they said they would call me back and they did not. Called again and they said movers were on their way would be there by 2:00pm. The movers never showed up and when I called back they stop answering there phone. Called on Monday to speak to someone and I kept getting the run around and then they had the secretary to call me back. Finally I spoke to Ryan, Joe and the Owner as they call him named Ben are the most rude & disrespectful people I have ever talked to and he hung up on me. Before you use these people check BBB they are rated F and their other name is Best Moving Van Lines . Also check Yelp which they are rated with one star. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESES PEOPLE THEY SHOULD BE RAN OUT OF BUSINESS. DON T WAIT UNTIL THIS HAPPEN TO YOU FIND SOME RELIABLE PEOPLE TO GIVE YOUR MONEY TO.

Worst moving experience EVER - a moving company that never showed up.

This is the first negative review I have ever written but felt compelled to do so in this case.  I hired them for a Saturday morning move - they were expected between 8 AM and 10 AM.  At 10:00 I called and was told they were on their way.  Then at 11:00 AM, they called apologizing, saying there was a mix up and I did not get on the schedule.     The customer service rep assured me they would find someone to help me move that day.  After waiting till about 2:00, I called again and was told that they thought they had someone and would call me in 5 minutes.  30 minutes later I called back and no one answered.  I called multiple numbers and left 3 voicemails but no answer.    I ended up having to scramble to find other movers for the next morning, paying a substantial premium.  Even after that, I never received a call from them.  I called trying to speak to a manager on three occasions and sent a couple emails requesting that a manager call me but did not hear back.   Mistakes happen.  However, the complete lack of understanding and customer service when they screwed up in such a blatant manner is ridiculous.  I understand why they have such HORRIBLE ratings and wish I took the time to read some before trying to use them.   It should also be noted that they have an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.  Please take my advice, you'd be crazy to use a company this incompetent and inconsiderate.

Never Showed Up!

This company called me after I did an internet request for a simple move. An employee named Ryan called me, and stated that they do not store items long term while waiting for my new home to be built, so I ordered a POD. It was delivered on a Friday as requested. I talked with Ryan about 2 weeks prior, and he stated that he could provide a couple of movers if I needed help @$115/hr. Min 4 hours. I agreed, we have a two story home and needed man power. He called me about 2-3 times, the last being on Saturday morning, the 28th. I informed him that I needed to be out of my sold home, by Monday afternoon the 30th. He stated that his men can come Sunday and move my items into the POD. He said that they had a busy schedule, but they would arrive Sunday the 29th between 130p and 330p. I told him this was perfect, it would give me time to get everything ready. Well, time went by, 230, 300, 330, 400pm, no call. I attempted to call him, but just recordings with all the numbers. 430, 530, now 6pm. No call. No movers. Now I am stuck. All my plans are on hold. I ended up calling for help from friends, family anyone who could stage all my large furniture in garage. Problem is, there is a certain way experienced movers can pack a POD so everything can fit. Thankfully a friend knows a mover that can come on Monday, memorial day. I still have received no calls or e-mails. I cannot BELIVE any company would do this to a customer. I was left high and dry with very strict deadlines. I am going to rip into the manger/owner if I can ever get a hold of anyone. I am beyond mad. How is this company still in business. if they charge my CC, (They needed it for a hold reservation) I will sue in civil court. This place sucks.

Dishonest company.

I paid $920 to move an item of furniture from VA to KY. I was told via phone and e-mail that the item would arrive within a week of pickup. Access to sales persons and prompt replies were the rule prior to pickup. After pickup, access to information was minimal. I was told at least 10 different delivery dates over the next 8 weeks. Ultimately, it took over 2 months to get the item even though the contract states it would be delivered within 30 days. My complaint is with the total dishonesty of the company. You cannot gain access to a higher level person, you cannot obtain honest answers, and often you cannot gain access to anyone in customer service.

Worst experience ever!!

WARNING!!WARNING!!STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS.
I would stay as far away from these guys as you can. They damaged so much of our things. Unbelievable that they could be that bad but they are. Mattresses had water damaged, new washer and dryer almost unusable due to damage from being dropped and having heavy items stored on them. Every single box that had been labelled "Fragile" looked like they had been kicked down the street. It was as if they thought the word "Fragile" meant play soccer with the box.
I couldn't get information on where my items were or when I would get them. I had to threaten them with speaking to a lawyer just to get a response. Nice guy who does your quote and then it all goes downhill from there.
Please, please use someone else but not these guys or Lidor Van Lines or Gold Coast Movers (http://www.goldcoastmo..). Lidor are Gold Coast Movers and they are terrible. They have named their name as close to the reputable company Gold Coast Moving to trick you into using them.

Do Not Use This Company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

I too was unsatisfied with Best Moving Van Lines. In fact I created this account to warn others about the overcharging and appalling management. I too was under quoted and charged for materials that were stated free on the website and free quote.

I agree with the previous complaint, the movers themselves were unprofessional and left cigarette butts throughout the property. I was charged a large amount to move two mirrors and two lamps. Of which arrived broken! I did not state my items were stolen, but many were missing. When you allow strangers into your home, you expect them to be courteous and clean. But they were not!

I would like to note, the company does not state on their free quotes, but they charge $175 for storage.

The company does not follow standard procedure. I requested an original weight of the truck and was not given it until three days after the pickup of my home goods. I have no proof of the original weight because I was not allowed to be present.

Also upon delivery many of my items were missing and damaged. The movers held my items hostage until I would pay them cash or a postal order in the mover's name, not the company's. This is not a professional business if they do not accept payments in the company's name.

I requested a reweigh and found out I was over charged a couple hundred of dollars. The rude managers, Tony and Ben, kept insisting the check was in the mail. It has been three months since my first complaint. I filed a complaint with the DOT and when I requested my reimbursement, was told by Ben.

Moving Company.

HORRIBLE!! Do not use this company. I went with this company because they offered the best price. They actually were the best price by a lot,..but they have been an absolute nightmare. I run 5 businesses and I don't know how this company is even in business after all the problems I have had. First off, they offered me a great price, which later, the salesperson (Joseph) said that he made a mistake and they refuse to work it out. Since I didn't know how much everything weighed, they offered me a price of $.39 a pound and an estimate of 7000 pounds. Joseph assured me that if the weight was lower, they would only charge me for the actual weight. The foreman told me he thought we had 5000-6000 pounds but they never did weigh the truck so they just charged me the full 7000 pounds.

I called several times a week for 2 months to try and get back the overcharge and the supervisors and managers DO NOT communicate and they took my money and hoped I would stop calling. I have received one call back from a manager in the last 2 months. That was just the beginning of the nightmare. We were then told to be ready to receive the delivery on a saturday between 9am -noon. They confirmed the night before and then no truck and no call. We tried calling the truck driver and no response all day. Best Movers said they couldn't get a hold of the driver either. The next day Best Movers said that the truck broke down and would be there in the next few days. We then got a hold of the driver who said that he was told not to make the delivery because his company did not receive enough money from best movers - so now my belongings was the collateral for two a trucking dispute.

A few days later the truck arrived and the driver said that his truck never broke down and that he was sick so needed a few days off. All I was looking for was communication and I never got it. You can call 5 times a day and they wont tell you the truth. After unpacking we noticed that we had an extra bedframe..I called the company to let them know and they don't care that someone else is missing their bedframe. I let them know that I am missing a box with a laptop, chairs and shelves and they still do not respond. I am so frustrated with this company. At one point, I said that I was so upset that our truckload of stuff is missing and that there was no update on where it was, that I said I would express my frustrations by writing a review of how bad the experience was and Sara, the customer service rep said, " go ahead and write about your experience, I don't care." This response shows how they do business. I have asked repeatedly to speak with the owner of the company and they say that they will inform him of my situation..

I hope he does call me someday..I'm still waiting on my laptop, and the other missing items. I will continue to call several times a week until something happens. After 2 months, a supervisor decided yesterday that I should receive 50% of what was overcharged. I still have to dispute the balance. Choose another moving company..even if this company was half the price of any other company, I would not use them. Go with a reputable company who cares about your things. I made a HUGE mistake by using this company and I don't know if I will ever see my missing stuff again.

I WOULD NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!! They rip me off royally!! They gave me a quote for $1152 and after they packed my items into their truck, they wrote out a new price for $2500 dollars. They used the excuse it was the packing cost. At the end of the day, you pay for what you get.. Please review there BBB Rating and other complaints online. Use U-Haul or a company that has better rating. I regret using this company and should have went with my gut feelings that it was too good to be true when they gave me that quote.

Do Not Use This Company.

I had very specific time guidelines that had to be followed because of the Apartment Buildings requirements for moving (elevator lockout timeframe). I expressed this to them and the previous 5 movers I contacted. Four of the others couldn't meet them and the other didn't get back to me fast enough. I had 17 days to get everything out at the time I called and was very clear on all of my guidelines. They pledged a truck and three guys on Monday by Noon and said they would not send them out on another job so they could be there on time. At 11:30AM I was called and they explained the truck would be late becaue of an over run on the other job they were doing. I was promised they would be there by 2PM. At 1PM they called again and appologized for having to reschedule me for another day. They scheduled me for Wednesday and promised me, again, they would be there by 1PM. (during all of this my timeframe for the elevator was 1:45 to 3PM) I was told, again, that they would NOT be scheduled for another job on that day so they would be there on time. AGAIN I was called at Noon saying they were on their way and would be there soon. They arrived at 2:20PM. They loaded the truck and we got underway at 6PM. An accident happened in San Rafeal at 6:12PM and stopped traffic all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. It took an extra hour to get to where we were going. If they had arrived at the scheduled time we would ahve missed the accident by 1 hour or so and travel time (at double time) would have been 1 1/2 hours and not 3. I asked for a refund for 1 hour and have been refused, since "they can't control traffic" and I agree. BUT they can control how and when their employees arrive and what info they tell their customers. The guys did a fanatstic job (some things were not disclosed about price but I was ok with them ), were very courtious and and asked lots of questions. Management does not even deserve 1 star but I give 2 because of the employees.

Customer service.

Wow, this company were just so beligerant to me when I cancelled a reservation (no credit card given to reserve the date, luckily!)  1 week in advance of my move. Their customer service and professionalism is non-existant, and I'm so happy I cancelled! I let them kindly know that I had decided on another mover, and the salesman said I was rude! Then his "manager" called me back (I expect it was the same person) who then told me that he was happy that they did not service my type of move! When I asked for his first and last name, he said his name was Jim F.U. All I can say is WOW. I might make it a part of my screening process going forward, to make a reservation and then cancel it to rate the customer service at reservation AND cancellation, to get a good true representation of the company. Their number is 877-733-7252 if you want to try this for yourself.         .

Avoid.

First of all, you should not trust any moving company which does not identify itself when answering the phone, as Best Moving Van Line does. I did not choose to work with these movers; the moving broker I worked with chose them and this is on me. Next time, I will find my own movers and do better research. Best Moving Van Line called me three hours before a scheduled pick up to cancel the move. They had confirmed 48 hours prior. I already had a flight purchased for the following day, which I had to cancel and rebook. The company said it wasn't their problem. They promised a truck at 8 the following morning. The truck actually showed up at 10:30 and I nearly missed my rebooked flight. When I asked if I could pay with credit card, the owner shouted at me, saying that he was tired of my move and to cancel if I couldn't pay cash.

The next day, I wrote a negative review of the company and "David" called me from a blocked number to say that he wouldn't deliver. This was after I'd paid more than half the moving cost. Now I will admit I was rude to the company's dispatcher and being rude is never a good policy. But I was very frustrated and had to be out of my storage unit on the same day as original pick up. The dispatcher didn't seem to care.

In the end, my belongings did arrive. Fortunately, everything was intact and the movers who delivered were fantastic -- they are contractors and not associated with BMVL. Unfortunately, the people who loaded the truck put my order in the middle and the order for the next stop in front, so the poor movers had to unload twice as much.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration lists these 'red flags'. Best Moving Van Lines asked for cash payment, provided only blank documents and didn't submit the BOL or other docs until after pick-up (my fault too for not being more vigilant), did not provide "Rights and Responsibilities".

Do Not Use - Terrible Experience

I received broken furniture that I found after the movers left. No one told us it was broken. We also asked for the white glove service, do not pay for this service. They left(vanished into thin air) without unpacking our things or putting together the furniture they said they would. They probably left without completing their work because furniture pieces were missing. I found parts were missing from the sets when I tried to put some of my furniture back together. One expensive item was left on the lawn with a broken base. I didn’t even notice it was broken until I tried to move it into the house. I also never received an inventory of the items they packed, so hopefully, all of my things showed up. I guess I’ll find out as I unpack all of the stuff I paid them to unpack. Overall, I feel like I was taken advantage of and that they are a terrible company to use. Please don’t use them and take a chance on sharing my experience.

Don't trust them and protect yourself.

Like many others on here, I ended up with this company through a broker. Communication was very good all the way to the day of the move. On the day of the move the workers were great and hard working. They were not a part of the issue. I paid in cash(I've since learned, don't ever do this with a moving company).

Like others, the price increased on the day of the move but not astronomically. I believe it was around $300. I was fine with this. After all my stuff was picked up, they gave a date of up to 4 weeks out for delivery. Again, I was fine with this due to the fact that I did not have an address yet. They stated that I would receive 1 month of free storage while I looked for a place.

About 2 weeks later I had an address. I called as I was asked to and gave them the address and the earliest date of delivery(My mistake, don't do anything over the phone with these people). They asked me to put the earliest date in an email, which I did(it was the next day). They again told me that it would take up to 4 weeks, and I was ok with that since I had all my essentials.

Fast forward 4 weeks and I had heard nothing(I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited the whole time before calling). This was another mistake on my part. I called them and left a voicemail asking where my stuff was. I received a voicemail and a text later that day stating that everything was on a truck and should be there within a week. So I waited a week and heard nothing. Called again and they said they would get back to me. A day later they called and said that I would have to pay $500 in storage fees before they would ship my stuff(which means they had lied about shipping it in the first place).

I asked why they never shipped my stuff. They lied and stated I never provided them an address(if that was true, then why did they lie and say they shipped my stuff?). There was a lot of back and forth with them and they continued to refuse to ship my stuff. I ended up contacting the original broker and explained the situation. I provided them all the proof I had: texts, emails, and voicemails. Thankfully, they agreed with me and used their position to get them to finally ship my stuff.

Everything arrived over 2 months after it was supposed to. There was some slight damage to 2 book cases because they used packing tape directly on the varnished wood. Other than that, everything was ok.

I would never use this company, and make sure to ask any broker what company they are placing you with. Never pay in cash, and only communicate in a way that can be documented.

THEY LOST ALMOST ALL MY FURNITURE!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! THEY LOST ALMOST ALL MY FURNITURE DURING THE MOVING!

My move was subcontracted out to Best moving van lines who has incredibly poor reviews and this felt like a bait and switch. My quote managed to grow over on pickup and again on the delivery. My desired delivery date was not followed and they took 41 days do deliver my shipment.

On the top of that they lost almost all the furniture or part of the furniture. After paying more than $3500 I dint get most of my items! And believe it or not, they don’t care. They just gave me a number to file a claim.

The only think I can do now is to file a complaint with the AMSA, Better Business Bureau, FMCSA, DOL… but this does not change the fact that I had to pay $3500 to end up with no furniture.

My move was 1 of the worst experineces of my life. my move started at $2000, i added some things and it went $3000, i was ok with that. in the end it cost me $5000. there was $1100 added for a shuttle truck. my things were to be picked up on 4/25/2021 got picked up 5/12/2021. i had to be in Pittsburgh by may 1 so i could not be there to supervise the loading.A month later i finally got my stuff. i got notice that they would be here on a wednesday but showed up at 6am tuesday. wouldn't start unloading until i went to the bank for cash. They tried to give me a number of things that belonged to someone else. had i not said something i would have had someone else's things. i really don't know what's missing, it was 2 months between packing and receiving my stuff. I would never deal with these clowns. i wish i had seen the reviews in advance. i went through Moving pro brokers had i known i wouldn't have used them. i kept calling both the broker and the company almost daily to get an update and it was always a run around. it was always that they would check and call me back. rarely did that happpen.i had no where to sit or sleep for a month. i sat and slept on the floor.Again do not use these people, either Best moving or moving pro brokerage. my stuff went from ca to nj and then sat there. nobody will tell me how long it was there. that's it for me hopefully people read this and pay attention. complete ripoff.
